The Newsroom

Editorial Standards

What we publish, and what has to be true before we do.

Sourcing

Every story that makes a factual claim carries a source log at the foot of the page listing what it was built from. Where a story rests on people rather than documents, we say how many and what position they are in to know.

We label rumor as rumor. A story in our Rumors section is reporting on what is being said, not an assertion that it is true, and it is badged that way on every surface it appears.

Verification

Contracts, medical records and test results are verified against the issuing body before publication. Footage is checked for provenance. We do not run a claim about a named fighter's conduct on a single anonymous source.

Right of reply

Anyone accused of wrongdoing in a story is contacted for comment before publication, and we say in the story whether they responded. Declining to comment is reported as exactly that.

Community submissions

Members can file stories. Every submission is read by an editor before it goes live, and an approved piece carries the contributor's byline. Submissions are rendered with embedded markup stripped regardless of who wrote them.

Independence

No promotion, manager or sponsor gets to see a story before it runs. See ownership and funding for who pays for this.
